Domain Management
Questions to ask about domains...
- Do you have a domain name for your company
- Does your domain name link to your website?
- Do you know who hosts your domain name?
- Does your current host protect you against
domain hijacking?
- Does your current host allow you to pay
monthly rather than every two years?
What is a domain?
A domain name is quite simply the name you buy to identify your company online. It is used in the address of your web site and your business email. Some companies have numerous domains these can link to different web sites or all be directed to one web site.
When you ‘buy’ your domain name it has to be registered with the relevant authorities. There are different authorities for .co.uk and for .com. We manage this process. Registering your domain name stops any of your competitors from using your name to conduct their business, and can make it much easier for your customers to find you online.
If you already have a domain name then you can ‘transfer’ your domain for us to manage.
Domain name hijacking is when somebody sees that a company’s domain registration is up for renewal and buys it out from underneath them. That person then contacts the company whose domain name they have bought and sells it back to them at highly elevated prices. The company whose domain has been stolen is almost powerless to escape this as their customers all have that web address.
